Zhang Jingna
Personal Background:
Jingna grew up in the suburbs of Beijing, but in early middle school her family moved to Singapore. In Singapore she learned to play Air Rifle and would later play on Singapore's national team for 6 years. A big part of her childhood was sports because her whole family was very athletic. She attended Raffles Gines school and Lasalle college or the arts. Jingna was awarded Forbes 30 under 30 because of her growing popularity in the art world.
Style:
Jingna is really well known for her fashion photography for magazines, that list includes;Elle, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and more. Her style is very effortless and natural in the way the models are posed. The models are always the focal point of the image and they just bring the outfit alive. The backgrounds are very bright and bring out the colors and textures of the fabric. Something unique is that no matter what she's shooting there is almost always a floral or fruit element in the photo.
Philosophy:
The philosophy behind her artwork depends on whether its personal or commercial work. An example of her personal work would be a collection called "Motherland Chronicles" where she explored her culture and its history. Even though not all of her work is personal, the professional work still retains her style. With her commercial work it was created with the goal of advertising a product or company. She also does exhibitions where she shows her personal and commissioned work.
Influence:
I really love the effortless look of this photographers work so that was something I really tried to achieve. I also loved the clothes in the photos so I tried to create similar silhouettes with the clothing we had available. Another thing I tried to work on was the lighting. Her photos were taken under studio lighting so I tried to replicate it with editing by brightening up the images. Lastly, I really wanted make sure my images looked natural and not too forced.

Compare and Contrast:
The outfits in all three photos are similar in shape, but have very different patterns and colors. The background is very similar because I used the eye dropper to get a lighter and a darker color from the actual image to create the background. The background is just a gradient centered around the girl. Another difference would be the posing, I kind of messed up the poses so they are a little bit different, but the idea is there. Lastly, the flowers are a little bit different, the red one is darker and the pink one is creamier.
Personal Artist Statement:
For my final project I really wanted to challenge myself with recreating fashion photography. Fashion is one of my favorite ways to explore art and its history. Even though the outfits aren't very close, I think the idea behind them is the same. My goal was to highlight the girl and the flower and I think I was successful in that. Lastly, I wanted to create a photo that looked almost effortless and natural even though the posing is very staged.
